Small hand held tools are often involved in injuries and/or deaths. It is not the tool causing the accident or injuries but the environment in which it is used.
Let me share some Basic Tool Safety
Wear personal protective equipment.
Depending on the tool specialized protective equipment may be needed such as leather gloves, foot guards, etc. Eye protection should be worn at all times
Wear proper clothing
Clothing should not be loose, baggy or flammable. Do not wear jewelry or any dangling item that might be caught by the tool.
Protect your hair, scalp and head
Pull back long hair to avoid getting caught in tools. Wear a hard hat or bump cap to protect your head.
Watch your fingers
Take special care when hammering to strike the object, not your fingers.
Keep your mind on your work
Avoid horseplay and loud talk. Be alert and work defensively.
Use tools properly
Always use the proper sized tools and equipment for the job. Use each tool for its intended purpose.
Inspect tools before using
Avoid using damaged tools.
Grips tools firmly
Grip tools firmly so they do not slip and hit someone. Do not wear gloves, they make gripping tools difficult and might become entangled.
