Should we protect our traditional culture?How stupid this question is!Sure we do!It goes without saying that we should protect ourtraditional culture.The only question is how shall we protect it ——what should be abandoned and what be inherited? Our principle for it is that——Select the essence and discard the dross and combine them to our society .
Why should we protect our traditional culture? Behind everybody there stands his country.Different countries have different characters. A person is not only on behalf of his own but is on behalf of his country,especially when he stays overseas.Losing our own cultures and having no differences from others,we do not call him a person who has been internationalized but a person who has forgot his own origin.It is easy to distinguish the Asians and the westerners by judging from their appearances. Distinguishing whether a person is a Chinese ,a Japanese or a Korean,however,is not so easy. The essence of distinguish is not exist in the languages but in the nation’s characters. Allowing me to go to extremes,——Is China still a nation if all her youth drink Coca Cola,eat Mcdonald's and speak Egnlish ;to make thing worse, there are only Washington,Jackson in their mind but know little about Qu Yuan ,Libai and Dufu.The famous poet,Yuguangzhong,said that how can you give your girlfriend a poem ——《Pu Sa Man》when she rename herself Marry? If this situation come true one day,China will be a noun in history books.So we should protect our traditional cultures and should never forget our history.
Protecting traditional culture is not mean we are antiforeign completely.We should keep our special characters while leraning from western cultures. Modernization is not mean tearing down siheyuan and building high buildings,singing English songs but forgetting the rhythm of the poem of Tang and Song Dynasty ; appreciating the performance of violin but don’t know the elegancy of old musical instrument of China. The one will not gain respect who abandoned his traditional culture; The country will not exist for a long time which lost its own characters. When the Korean successfully made the DuanWu festival as his own cultures ,we just protested this illegal action but don’t turn over to think about ourselves,because we are too disregard our own traditional culture to do it. Insteading of celebrating the Double Deventh Festival, most of us celebrate the Valentine's Day on the large scale.The atmosphere of the New Year is becoming tasteless while the passion to celebrate the Christmas is higher and higher year in year out.If China do not protect its traditional culture immediately,as Luxun said,the nation will not be a nation。Khitan (契丹)was disappeared long long times ago ,for it had been assimilated by China. Soviet Union also meet his doom,for it is destroyed by the “Peaceful Evolution” launched by the Europe and Amerca.May be China will not be the second Soviet,but who knows?
