Hope then lands a job working at the gym of seasoned boxer TickWills, who agrees to help train Hope as he gets ready for a redeeming comeback.

Unfortunately, due to its emphasis on these themes ofredemption and victory, “Southpaw” falls into a trap of genre clichés thathave often plagued similar sports drama films.
