In Part One of this series, we introduced you to your Turf and outlined the importance it has to your success as a gangster in Triad Wars. Part Two of this series explains the Racket System and its role in your rise to power.
Rackets make goods – goods that can be sold on the Black Market or used to create items and opportunities worth much more.
There are five types of rackets: Extortion, Counterfeiting, Gambling, Auto Theft, and Smuggling.
Extortion
Sometimes people need a bit of coercing to help them remember who runs Hong Kong. Prime targets include the city’s food cart vendors (look out, Pork Bun Man!) and its lucrative Minibus routes. If you’re smart enough, you can enlist the help of Loan Sharks to do your dirty work for you.
Counterfeiting
If you want to survive on these streets, you better understand what’s hot in the market and how to make your own version of it. You can run a factory to make knock-off fashions or churn out your own version of the latest electronics, but both of these will require a steady supply of stolen designs – so you’ll need some hackers working for you too. (And, paying everyone is easy enough if you print your own money.)
Gambling
Gangsters find it difficult to resist putting money down on sure things – which we’re happy to whisper in their ear when they stop by our Cockfighting Rings and Gambling Dens. But, even though they might make a buck in the beginning, at the end of the day, the house ALWAYS wins.
Auto Theft
Some people don’t pay their debts. When this happens, you need to step in and…ahem…borrow something of theirs. Like their car. From there, sell them on the Black Market or strip them for parts and make entirely new cars in your Auto Shop.
Smuggling
Can you tell the difference between a Salmon and a Red Herring? Your Fish Market is a prime place to hook some suckers. The money you make can be used to smuggle and sell exotic goods from all across Asia.
Once you’ve built your rackets, produce your goods, and then quickly transfer them to your Warehouse before your rivals raid you. In Triad Wars, everyone wants to profit from your hard work!
Next week we’ll look at the Black Market and Exports in more detail. They’re the key to turning your fledging enterprise into a true fortune.
NOTICE: We’ll be hosting our very first Twitch stream on October 17th, 2014 to answer any questions you have relating to turfs, rackets, or anything else discussed in this blog series. Please leave a comment on any of the blog posts or in this forum thread if you’d like us to answer your question live!
