Tech. Sgt. Daniel L. Zerbe, 28, of York, Pa.
All three airmen were assigned to the 24th Special Tactics Squadron, Pope Field, N.C.
从名单上来看，东海岸和西海岸的海军特战单位显然是指2海军特战大队1海军特战大队，为了保密没有明确公布这些人员实际来自何单位。
这次海豹阵亡指挥官是少校，其他的均是高级别士官，最低的也是E-6，有1名更是E-9，年纪都在30岁或以上。除了海豹人员，还有5名其他海军人员：2名是军械爆破处理员，1名信息系统技术员，1名密码技术员，1名MA，全是来自海军远征作战司令部，且级别也很高：3名E-6，1名E-7，1名E-8。那麽可以看出，增援补充海豹的其他海军人员资历也是相当的。
陆军5名人员分别来自135航空团2营和158航空团7营，前者是国民警卫队，后者是陆军预备役。搭乘支奴干型号可肯定不是MH-47G，应是CH-47D。机组人员确定为2名陆军准尉飞行员、副飞行员，加上3名陆军士官。
空军人员都是来自24特种战术中队，这个得以确定。24特种战术中队和其他空军特种战术中队不同的是，它直属於联合特种作战司令部（JOSC），配合三角洲部队以及海豹6队行动。
机上除了38人，还带了一只军犬。
关於任务：
此次事件中海豹6队执行的不是特战任务，而是作为IRF增援地面部队的常规作战任务，临时搭乘空闲的陆军CH-47D直升机，事先更没有严密的计划过，不是事前安排好的增援部队，而是正好在战斗发生地点最近的部队，临时派遣很仓促。依照美军在阿富汗实战纪录报告，阿富汗高海拔山区不利於直升机运动，因为空气稀薄导致马力下降，载重量也严重不足。阿富汗山区的就一般由CH-47来完成运输和投送工作，塔利班是用RPG击落直升机，这个武器没有制导系统，肉眼瞄准，直升机防空系统主要是针对激光或者红外制导的便携式防空导弹的，因此对RPG没有什麽防御系统，同时直升机是在下降时被击中的，陆航直升机战术不要求在交火地点下降之前做一定程度的空中机动以避免地面火力，因此导致了被击落。
